West Vancouver - or West Van as the locals would say - is home to some of the most picturesque views in all of Vancouver, offering beautiful ocean and mountain views that could easily win awards.

If there is a place that is quintessentially Vancouver, West Van may be that place. A natural slice of paradise, West Van is the nature lover’s dream, home to beautiful parks, beaches, hiking trails and more. West Van has something to offer everyone.

Whether you just moved to the area or you are a seasoned local, here is a look at the best places to visit, great for both first-timers and long-time locals alike.

Ambleside Park, a beach front park, is one of the top rated things to do in Vancouver. Arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in Metro Vancouver with a lot to see and do, it is not difficult to see why this is a popular location.

Ambleside Park also offers great views of the famous Stanley Park.

The great thing about Ambleside Park is that there is there is something for everyone. If you’re partial toward beautiful ocean views, take a casual stroll up the beach. Or, enjoy the great dining options that this park has to offer.

Children can spend time in the children’s area while Fido can be left off-leash. There are picnic benches along the way as well, great for a family weekend picnic.

Horseshoe Bay is arguably one of the most picturesque spots in all of West Vancouver.

Surrounded by mountains, this is a great location for watching the ferries pass by, offering a distinct ‘seaside’ feel. If you enjoy whisking the day away while being surrounded by beautiful views, Horseshoe Bay is the place to be.

Of course, there are also interesting shops, restaurants and a playground to see along the way. You can even rent a boat and go out on the water or do some fishing. Horseshoe Bay is a definite must.

For those who enjoy shopping, Park Royal Centre is the top rated shopping center in West Vancouver, meaning it’s a definite must if you feel like doing a bit of shopping.

Interestingly, it is also Canada’s very first mall, which first opened all the way back in the 50s.

Park Royal Shopping Centre is more of a posh, upscale mall but offers a balance of both both high end, designer pieces and more mid-level options.

Park Royal Center has just about everything you could ever want, which makes it a particularly great mall for children.

For malls, this one checks all of the boxes and comes highly rated.

Cypress Mountain is yet another top-rated destination in West Vancouver. People not only flock to this place for prime skiing and snowboarding in the winter months, but you can also hike here, too.

Perhaps the greatest thing about Cypress Mountain is the magnificent views, offering some of the best views of Vancouver and the Pacific ocean in the entire city.

In other words, don’t forget to pack your camera.

Lighthouse Park, a National Historic Site of Canada, is a popular tourist attraction. People flock here from all over. In fact, according to TripAdvisor, Lighthouse Park is the number one attraction in all of West Vancouver.

Offering rugged scenery, breathtaking views of the water and rainforest-scapes, this is definitely the nature lover’s paradise.

Whether you want to walk the many trails that you will find here, do some bird watching or have a picnic, you can definitely easily spend a few hours here admiring Vancouver’s beauty.

If you stop by, make sure to admire the Douglas Fir and Red Cedar trees - they are among the few left in the area.

    1.

Dundarave is a quaint seaside village that is a bit of a departure from what you’ve found on this list so far. If you want a mix of both nature and city, this is the place to come.

Dundarave is widely charming with its old fashioned lamps and yet equally picturesque, staying true to West Van.

Here you can visit galleries, enjoy lunch at one of the many patio front restaurants or, in typical West Van fashion, visit the beach or park. Dundarave waterfront also has a playground for children to enjoy.

West Vancouver Aquatic Center is a great place for families to come and have some good family fashioned fun.

This recreational center is not like the others - sure, there’s a lot of pools to choose from, including a family pool, but it’s also equipped with a waterslide. This is a great place to come on a rainy day.

The West Vancouver Sea Wall is the second best place to be in all of West Vancouver according to TripAdvisor, making it definitely worthy of attention. This is a lovely place for an ocean stroll with shops and other points of interest being easily accessible along the way.

You will definitely also see a lot of wildlife here as well, from eagles to seals.

Another notable area in West Vancouver is Whyteclif Park, a rocky beach that is a popular spot for scuba divers. If you want to dive a little deeper, Whytecliff Park should definitely be a place you visit.

Among the top restaurants in all of West Vancouver, Olive & Anchor, a waterfront restaurant, undoubtedly deserved a spot on our list. Offering seafood as well as classically Canadian dishes, this place perfectly encapsulates all that West Vancouver has to offer.

People rave about the fish and chips.
